FAQs

What is counselling?

Counselling is a type of therapy helping you to explore issues, problems or blockages that you may have and which affect your life.

It is based on one to one sessions of one hour. Your counsellor will listen to you and will make some interventions when appropriate.

Why counselling?

Counselling can help you understand how past experiences or more recent events may be affecting your life, your moods and your relationships. It will help you make sense of it all, understanding and coping better with your difficulties.

The aim of counselling is to help you develop better self-awareness and understanding of yourself and others as well as help you move forward.

How many sessions will I need?

Counselling can be short term or long term depending on your issues.

Short term counselling is usually between 6 to 12 weeks.

Long term counselling is open ended.

At the end of the first session, your counsellor will be able to advise you on how many sessions you may need.

This is reviewed regularly.

What about confidentiality?

What you say in the counselling session is confidential. As a professional counsellor, I attend regular supervision where cases may be discussed but no surname is revealed to ensure confidentiality.

The only reason why confidentiality may have to be broken is if you are in danger of harming yourself or someone else or if evidence is due in court.

(As a counsellor i am fully insured).
